2019 Thompson Syrah-TGIF

Hello Friends,

Just four days until Daylight Savings!!!

Our parking lot is getting fixed today and tomorrow, so please park on the street Wednesday and Thursday.

Our TGIF wine this week is the 2019 Thompson Vineyard Syrah. Regularly $42/bottle, TGIF=$25/bottle for wine club members only. Thompson Vineyard is located in the acclaimed Alisos Canyon AVA (see picture below). This wine is incredibly savory and balanced, a perfect compliment with food, and completely satisfying on its own. Just a quick reminder, we offer complimentary tastings for wine club members when we release new wines; otherwise, tastings are not free. However, the TGIF deal is an incredible wine club perk!

Winter 2022 Wine Club Letter

Dear Friends,

As I reflect on 2021, I am in awe of how our lives parallel each other and nature. The word capacity seems so finite, but it is pretty infinite.   In 2020 so many of us had our capacity adjusted. For example, I no longer went to work. I was no longer driving my kids to school or practice or spending weekends at tournaments. I was no longer traveling for business or pleasure or hosting friends and family for the weekend. I barely went to the supermarket and certainly did not spend much time at the gas pump. Effectively, we were all hibernating. We were storing energy and fuel for the next season in our lives. Last year, in 2021, I did not think my plate had ever been fuller. I no longer even had a plate. I had a Thanksgiving serving platter that was overflowing. We made more than twice the amount of wine that we ever have. We went from 50 tons to 105 tons of grapes in 2021. I sent my firstborn off to college, my second born off to high school, and sports resumed for us with a vengeance. We started driving Sean to water polo practice in Santa Barbara four nights a week and spending our weekends in Orange County watching him play. I did all of this while finishing Graduate school in December.

Collectively our daily lives filled up and overflowed our capacity. I believe we collectively grew stronger. Not only did our plates fill back up, but our capacity for love, tolerance, and acceptance must have increased. Our coping skills and stress responses were challenged and matched. I have to think that we collectively evolved as a species. That is how evolution happens—something external stresses the species to the point where it must adapt, which we did. We adapted, evolved, and profoundly grew our capacity.

We put the grapes through this same stress process year after year. The vines dig deep into the soil to replenish their minerals and find water. They do this despite droughts or pandemics. Vines like humans grow stronger, deeper, and push their capacity to produce regardless of the conditions. These conditions are why Santa Barbara County makes such fantastic wine. The natural and cyclical conditions provide just enough rest and stress to create something dynamic, ambitious, and courageous.

Thank you for being wine club members and enjoying this wild ride of life with us. You, too, are dynamic, ambitious, and courageous. Relish in your advanced capacity, and let the past serve as a marvelous light to guide you forward.

Wine made and sold with love,

Sara, Joey, Tina, Shannon, Caitlin, and Chris

More Wine Club Info

Hello Friends,

My apologies about Monday's debacle. I had one of those days where technology defied me, and then from there, nothing went right...LOL!!

Here is all the info you could ever hope for, and hopefully, it is all accurate:

**We will be closed Super Bowl Sunday**

You should all have received your wine club order yesterday via email. You have until February 13th to make any changes, and I am happy to help; shoot me an email. Credit cards charge on 2/14, and your wine will be ready to pick up in the tasting room on 2/16. The wine club will ship on 2/21, and our Pick-Up Party is on the 26th.

Today is the LAST day to RSVP for the Pick-Up Party. I have a caterer reserved, and she needs the final headcount tomorrow. Please email me if you would like to attend. The party is from 1-4 on February 26th at our winery location, 300 North G Street. $20/per person. Cabrillo High School's Viticulture program and their Business Management class will be hosting a silent auction at the Pick-Up Party. We will be selling their 2018 Syrah which was grown at the school and made by us.

Our TGIF wine this week is the 2020 Silver Linings Syrah. Let me know if you would like to add some to your wine club, pick them up in the tasting room, or ship on the 21st.

The last thing is that I think most of you might not be familiar with a Pinot Blanc. I had honestly never tasted the varietal until we made it. Pinot Blanc is my new favorite white alcohol EVER, and as many of your know, that place used to be held by Tequila.

Pinot Anyone?

Hello Friends,

Our TGIF wine this week is the 2020 115 Clone Pinot Noir from Lafond Vineyard. Regularly $48/bottle, TGIF=$25. This clone specific Pinot Noir is the sister wine to the 777 Clone that we released in October. We did not make enough of this wine to release for the wine club, so if you are interested in some Pinot, I recommend grabbing some at the TGIF price. Let me know if you want to pick up, stash, or ship with your next wine club (February).

Off to a Great Start!

Hello Friends,

First, I know you have all been waiting!!!! The winner of the mixed case is........Rebecca Lewis!! Rebecca, come on down to the tasting and collect your prize!!!

In other news, after 25 years of not skiing/snowboarding, Joey and I can still hit the slopes. It really is just like riding a bike. Our winter vacation had some highs and lows...Our daughter got 25 stitches on Christmas night (she tried to ride her brother's Christmas present and hit the accelerator instead of the gas). We had a couple of bouts of stomach flu, pink eye, a torn rotator cuff, and a couple of negative COVID tests. However, we did have some wonderful family walks on the beach in Coronado, and Joey had some fantastic father/son moments teaching our son to snowboard. For the first time in almost three years, I got to see my Dad, and our cabin Big Bear had a marvelous fireplace where Joey went on an unbelievable cribbage-winning streak.

Our TGIF this week is our 2020 Silver Linings Syrah, and the 2020 SRH Chardonnay TGIF=$25/bottle. Let me know if you would like to pick up, stash or ship.

Tasting Room Hours This Week:

I hope your 2022 is off to a great start, and thank you for making Transcendence part of your celebrations. We bottle in a couple of weeks, and we can't wait to share the fruits of our labor.

New Sparkling Release!

Hello Friends,

We are releasing a new Sparkling wine in time for Christmas and New Year's. The vintages are 2014, 2015, and 2016. The base stayed in the bottle until 2019 and remained in dosage for a year and a half. Joey disgorged the wine this week, and it is in the tasting room and ready to ship. $60/bottle plus your wine club discount.

Fall 2021 Wine Club Letter

Hello Friends,

I want to share the story behind the Silver Linings Syrah.  When we brought this wine in, we were immersed in Covid restrictions. I could barely breathe thinking about losing my business and how deeply sad and depressed my children were. I started making a list (to avoid being overwhelmed with anger) of all the Silver Linings Covid had blessed us with.  It began with family time and not being on the road until 9 pm, driving to Santa Ynez or Santa Barbara for volleyball and water polo practice. As a family, we leaned in.  We watched movies, ate popcorn, made our favorite foods for dinner, stayed up way too late.  Eventually, our body's alarm clocks started allowing us to sleep in.

Gluttonous acts of eating and drinking too much made it imperative to begin moving the body again, and my girlfriends and I started walking every morning together. This time gave us a great outlet to circle the wagon about our kids and how we can support them and each other.
We created a home gym, and the four of us lifted weights together. I was working less, and I made time for naps. I didn't worry about cleaning my house because nobody was coming over. We saved money on gas, grew a garden, and my kids cooked dinner one day a week.  My friendships grew more profound, and I spent time appreciating the life we lost. Our family's favorite outing was taking the dogs to Hendry's Beach in Santa Barbara, grabbing dinner at the Boat House, and watching the sunset.  We enjoyed the simple pleasures of life.

Because of these simple pleasures, my Silver Linings list kept growing.  After a few months, you people, our customers, started coming back to the tasting room, and we were so excited to have a drive-through pick-up party.  I was no longer worried about losing the business. When someone was brave enough to engage in a hug, it felt full of emotion and longing, like a hug should feel. We were and continue to be overwhelmed with your support.

Even though our country is more polarized than ever, I hope we remember that collectively the entire planet went through Covid. Nobody was spared, and we are all bonded by a shared experience with devastating lows and hopefully silver linings that last a lifetime. I choose to focus on loving stronger, communicating deeper, and being steadfast in faith that we will Transcend. I hope you enjoy the Silver Linings Syrah, and while you drink it, you reflect on your own Silvers Linings and share them with the people you love.

Thank you, Cindy Leach, for your thoughtful name of this wine. Thank you ALL for your love of wine and your support of Transcendence,

Sara, Joey, Tina, Shannon, Caitlin, and Chris
