“The word transcendence means ‘lying beyond the limits of ordinary experience.’ Their wines certainly do that, as Gummere traverses the road less traveled in his approach to winemaking.”
2009 Parea
“A blend of 54% Grenache and 46% Syrah, this is a Rhone- style cuvee with a decidedly New World profile. High-toned menthol notes quickly give way to dark flowers, followed by rich blackberry and raspberry fruit. Additional whiffs of smoke, chocolate baking powder and vanilla add to the complexity. The wine expands in the mouth, coating the palate, and showing flavors of berry jam and chocolate. The tannins are fine and silky. Everything is in place for this red to provide drinking pleasure now and over the next eight years.” 91 Points
2009 Syrah, Santa Barbara County
“Slow to unfold, the wine opens up to reveal jammy blackberry, a dash of white pepper, and perfumed wood scents. Juicy and mouth-filling, the concentrated jammy blackberry fruit carries through to the finish. This is a plush wine that delivers plenty of drinking pleasure now, and the integrated tannins should carry it another six to eight years. Splash decant prior to serving to open up the nose.”    90 Points
2011 Zotovich Vineyard Chardonnay
“In the last five years, a niche has been carved out for ‘unoaked,’ non-malolactic Chardonnays because they tend to be more food-friendly. This one has much to recommend it. Restrained aromas of pear, light pineapple, orange and lemon blossom, and liquid minerality lead to a mouthful of crisp, vibrant acidity that will match up well with a wide assortment of fresh seafood, and should keep this wine fresh over the next six to eight years. Butter-bomb enthusiasts may not be wowed by this style, but true Chardonnay aficionados will find this quite refreshing.” 89 Points
